2011 Season - Vikings second in initial poll of season

Veteran head coach Paul Olsen's team is ranked second in the initial NCAA Division III outdoor power rankings. The poll is conducted by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

After finishing the indoor season occupying the fifth spot in the NCAA Division III indoor power rankings poll, Augustana opens the outdoor season in second in the initial poll. The Vikings tallied 192.61 points in the most recent rankings. The poll is conducted by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Whitworth currently holds first place with 203.03 points. Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps (188.78) opens the season in the third spot with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (181.47) controlling the fourth spot. North Central rounds out the top five, totaling 177.07 points. The Midwest Region occupies three of the top ten spots. Joining Augustana and North Central in the top ten from the Midwest Region is Washington who holds onto the tenth spot with 142.81 points.

So far this season Augustana has competed in three meets. The Vikings won their dual meet with St. Ambrose by a score of 154-54 on March 19 in Rock Island, Illinois Iowa and finished first in the Viking Olympics on March 26. This past weekend Augustana finished second at the Wartburg Select meet in Waverly, Iowa.

Augustana will compete in the Lee Calhoun Memorial Relays in Macomb, Illinois on Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9.
