2011 Season - Women's track eighth in first poll

Veteran head coach Fred Whiteside has his team ranked eighth in the first poll of the outdoor season.

The Augustana women’s track & field team opens the 2011 outdoor season with an appearance in the top 10 of the NCAA Division III dual meet power rankings. Veteran head coach Fred Whiteside’s team is eighth in the first poll.

The Vikings totaled 139.04 points. The ranking is sponsored by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Association and it encompasses the top two performances by each team in every event.

Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps is currently ranked first in NCAA Division III with 164.53 points. Augustana is just 3 points behind Washington (142.04) in seventh place.

So far this season the Vikings have competed in a total of three meets. The season started with the Vikings hosting St. Ambrose in a dual meet on March 19 which the Vikings won by a score of 127-77. Augustana finished second in the Viking Olympics on March 26 in Rock Island, Illinois and placed ninth in the Wartburg Select meet on April 2 in Waverly, Iowa last week.

The Vikings will travel to the Lee Calhoun Memorial Relays in Macomb, Illinois on April 8-9.
