2011 Season - Zeunik wins CCIW honor

Augustana senior Patrick Zeunik (Bloomington Central Catholic, Bloomington, Ill.) has been selected as the men’s “Field Athlete of the Week” in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin for his performance on Saturday, April 2 at the Wartburg Select meet in Waverly, Iowa. Zeunik was the individual winner in the triple jump helping lead the Vikings to a second place team finish in the 13 team field.
Zeunik won the triple jump with a leap of 49’ 6 ½”, eclipsing his own school record and automatically qualifying for the NCAA Division III national meet.
Zeunik is a three time NCAA All-American in the triple jump and a three time letter winner in track & field for the Vikings. He holds the school record in both the indoor and outdoor triple jump.
Zeunik was an individual winner in Augustana’s first outdoor competition of the season, a dual meet against St. Ambrose on Saturday, March 19. In that meet, a 154-54 Viking victory, Zeunik soared an NCAA qualifying 48’ 4 ¾” in the triple jump which was also a meet record.
During the recently completed indoor season, Zeunik was the conference champion in the triple jump at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship with a jump of 48’ 1 ¾”. He also took third in the long jump at the CCIW meet with a jump of 21’ 8 ¾”. Zeunik went on to compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships in Columbus, Ohio where he placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 49’ 5” earning him All-American honors.
The son of John Zeunik and Mary Richter-Zeunik of Bloomington, Illinois, Patrick is a biology major at Augustana.
