2011 Season - TenBusch wins CCIW honor
|Billy TenBusch was selected as the "Athlete of the Week" for men's track & field in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin for his effort at the Viking Olympics last Saturday. He won the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 9:36.20.|
Augustana junior Billy TenBusch (Prairie Ridge HS, Cary, Ill.) has been selected as the men’s track & field “Athlete of the Week” in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin for his performance on Saturday, March 26 at the Viking Olympics. TenBusch was the individual winner in the 3000 steeplechase at the 70th annual Viking Olympics and was instrumental in Augustana claiming a huge team victory in the nine team event.
TenBusch won the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 9:36.20 despite weather conditions that had temperatures dipping into the lower 30s and strong winds throughout the course of the race.
TenBusch is a three time letter winner in cross country for the Vikings and has earned two letters in track & field. He is a three time academic all-conference winner in cross country and indoor track & field and has been named twice in outdoor track & field.
He was a double winner in Augustana’s first outdoor competition of the season, a dual meet against St. Ambrose on Saturday, March 19. In that meet, a 154-54 Viking victory, TenBusch won the 1500 in 4:08.95 and the 3000 in 8:58.74.
During the recently completed indoor season he placed eighth in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship in the 3000 with a time of 8:48.18. He was a regular in the top-five during the 2010 cross country season and placed 48th at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional.
The son of Bill and Diane TenBusch of Cary, Illinois, Billy is an international business major at Augustana.
