2011 Season - Vikings go 6-1 in Florida

Freshman Pat Wilson went 4-for-5 with three RBI Friday as Augustana closed out the first leg of its Florida trip with a 10-5 win over St. John Fisher.

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - With a 10-5 win over St. John Fisher on Friday, Augustana closed out the first leg of its Florida trip with a 6-1 record. Freshman Pat Wilson (Stevenson HS, Vernon Hills, Ill.) had four of the Vikings' 14 hits Friday and Jared McIntosh (Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) started and went five solid innings to get the win and improve to 2-0 on the season.

The Vikings staked McIntosh to a 4-0 lead with a pair of tallies each in the second and third innings. Augustana's first run came on a bases-loaded walk to Anthony Concialdi (Fremd HS, Barrington, Ill.) that pushed across Jeremy Juhl (Glenbard East, Lombard, Ill.), who had walked to lead off the inning. T.J. O'Donnell's (New Trier HS, Northbrook, Ill.) sacrifice fly scored Wilson to make it 2-0. In the third, Juhl singled to score Joe Moran (Notre Dame HS, Chicago, Ill.) and came around to score himself on Wilson's single up the middle.

St. John Fisher touched McIntosh for a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, but Moran brought home Kurt Schmidt (Grayslake Central HS, Grayslake, Ill.) with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-2 Augustana.

After leaving the bases loaded in the fifth and yielding a run to the Cardinals in the top of the sixth, the Vikings broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Wilson drove in a pair with a bases-loaded single to left. Concialdi delivered a sacrifice fly to right to make it 8-3 and O'Donnell added an RBI single to left.

Senior Dave Hoffman (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) drove in an unearned run with a single to center in the seventh and St. John Fisher got to Viking freshman Brian Konecke (Lakes Community HS, Itasca, Ill.) for a pair of runs in the top of ninth to make the final 10-5.

Wilson went 4-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and three driven in. Schmidt, Moran and Juhl each had two hits. Juhl scored three times and Schmidt and Moran twice each. Concialdi and Moran each drove in a pair. McIntosh gave up two runs on four hits in five innings, walking three and fanned three. Ben Heaton (Bloomington Central Catholic HS, Heyworth, Ill.) allowed a single run in three innings of relief.

The Vikings head back to the Sunshine state for four more games March 18-20.
