2010-11 Season - Augustana to host NCAA sectional

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Augustana has been chosen by the NCAA as one of four hosts for sectional play in the NCAA Division III tournament on Friday & Saturday, March 11-12. 26-3 Wisconsin-Stevens Point and 26-3 St. Thomas will face off in Friday's first semifinal with the 26-3 Vikings taking on 23-7 Mary Hardin-Baylor in the second. The semifinal winners will meet in Saturday's sectional final with a trip to the Final Four on the line.
Game times and advanced ticket sales details will be announced Monday afternoon following a conference call and approval by the national committee.
Mary Hardin-Baylor, out of Belton, Texas, finished tied for second in the Western Division of the American Southwest Conference. The Crusaders are making their fourth NCAA Division III tournament appearance and with wins over UT-Dallas (86-77) and McMurry (70-67) this year, have a 3-3 record all-time in the tournament.
The other two sectional participants are seasoned NCAA tournament veterans. UW-Stevens Point, the defending national champion, is this year's champion of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Stevens Point is competing in its 10th NCAA Division III tournament and has a record of 27-6 with three national championships (2004, 2005 and 2010). The Pointers advanced to the sectional with wins over St. Norbert (70-49) and Luther (76-56).
The Pointers’ sectional semifinal opponent, the University of St. Thomas from St. Paul, Minnesota, is making its 12th Division III tournament appearance and sixth in a row. The Tommies have compiled a 14-12 tournament record with a fourth-place finish in 1994. This season, the Tommies were co-champions of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and defeated Northwestern 70-60 and Illinois Wesleyan 78-70 to advance to the sectional.
