![]() |
| Luke Scarlata and the Augustana Vikings will head into the NCAA Division III national tournament ranked seventh in the final D3hoops.com poll. |
Augustana will carry a number seven national ranking heading into the 2011 NCAA Division III national tournament. The Vikings, now 24-3 after winning the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin tournament on February 26, picked up 462 points and are ranked seventh by D3hoops.com.
Head coach Grey Giovanine's team won the CCIW tournament for the third time in the last five years with a convincing 76-52 win over Illinois Wesleyan in the championship game. The Vikings advanced to the title tilt with a 73-58 win over Wheaton on Friday, February 25. The CCIW tournament was held at North Central's Merner Fieldhouse in Naperville, Illinois.
Augustana is making its 12 th appearance in the NCAA Division III national tournament, and its fourth in the last six seasons. The Vikings advanced to the “Sweet Sixteen” in 2006 and played in the regional championship game in 2008, dropping an overtime thriller to eventual national champion Washington.

Junior forward Bryant Voiles (Byron HS, Byron, Ill.) was a second team all-conference honoree and junior point guard Brian DeSimone (Buffalo Grove HS, Wheeling, Ill.) was named to the third team.
The Vikings open NCAA tournament action on Friday, March 4 with a 7:30 p.m. battle against Webster in the Carver Center. Hope and Hanover will play in the 5:30 p.m. game and the winners will square off at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 for the right to advance to the sectional.
