2011 Season - Sinon & Patton pull down CCIW honors

Augustana nailed down both “Athlete of the Week” honors for men’s track & field in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin for the week ending February 20. Sophomore Greg Patton (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) won the award for track while freshman Nick Sinon (Kaneland HS, Elburn, Ill.) was the winner for field events. Both athletes turned in tremendous performances at the Dubuque Open in Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday, February 19 at A.Y. McDonald Track.
Patton set a new McDonald Fieldhouse record in the 400 by winning in a time of :49.97. He finished his day by anchoring the 1600 relay team to victory in a season’s best time of :49.97.
Sinon won the high jump with an NCAA Division III qualifying leap of 6’ 8” and he also set a new McDonald Fieldhouse record.
Augustana, ranked fifth in NCAA Division III, will now compete in the CCIW championship meet this Friday (February 25) and Saturday (February 26) in Bloomington, Illinois at Illinois Wesleyan University.
Patton and Sinon are the third and fourth Vikings this season to be honored by the CCIW. Triple jumper Patrick Zeunik (Bloomington Central Catholic HS, Bloomington, Ill.) was the “Field Athlete of the Week” on February 8 after he set a school record at the Warhawk Classic in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Brian Benning (Winnebago HS, Winnebago, Ill.) was the same award at week later (February 15) after he set a new school record in the 35 pound weight toss at the Augustana Open.
Patton, the son of Greg and Eunice Patton of Bloomington, Illinois, is a geography and political science major while Sinon, the son of Darlene Sinon of Elburn, Illinois and George Sinon of North Aurora, Illinois, is a computer science major.
