2010-11 Season - Vikings move to third in NCAA poll
![]() |
| Junior point guard Brian DeSimone is the third leading scorer for Augustana's third ranked men's basketball team. DeSimone is averaging 9.0 points per game and leads the 22-1 Vikings in assists with 59. |
Augustana rebounded nicely after losing to Carthage at home on February 5 and the Vikings were rewarded with a two-spot jump in the latest NCAA Division III national polls. Head coach Grey Giovanine’s team won at Wheaton on Wednesday, February 9 by a score of 80-77 and then dispatched of Millikin in Decatur on February 12 by a 71-51 count.
Augustana was fifth a week ago with 522 points and the Vikings moved up two slots to third with 560 points. Whitworth (23-0) has the top spot for the second week in a row with 621 points and 21 first place votes. Williams (23-1) is second with 602 points and four first place votes.
Last Saturday Augustana (22-1 overall and 11-1 in the CCIW) clinched at least a tie for the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin title and can clinch an outright title with a victory over either North Central or Illinois Wesleyan. The Vikings will play North Central on Saturday, February 19 in Naperville, Illinois and then will close out the regular season with a trip to Bloomington, Illinois on Tuesday, February 22 to face Illinois Wesleyan.
Augustana has now won 13 CCIW titles in its history and five of those have come in the last eight seasons.
A fixture in the national polls since Giovanine became head coach prior to 1999-00, the Vikings have now been ranked in the top 25 of the D3hoops.com poll for 83 weeks (out of a possible 172) since the website began doing the ranking.
