2011 Season - Vikings get 11 winners at Augustana Open

Brittany Prazak was one of 11 winner for the host school Saturday at the Augustana Open. She won the 2000 meters in a time of 7:20.51.

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - The Vikings had 11 winners, five of whom were freshmen at Saturday's Augustana Open. Senior Brittany Prazak (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.) was also a winner, taking the 2000 in a time of 7:20.51 to lead a first through third sweep by the Vikings.

 Freshman Kierra Smith (Creston HS, Creston, Iowa) was a winner in the 300 with a :44.92. Other first-year Vikings who claimed victories included Taeler Hillyer (Rock Island Alleman HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) with an 11' 2" pole vault, Liana Beauchamp (Genoa-Kingston HS, Kingston, Ill.) with a 47' 4½" in the weight throw and Lauren Schneiderbauer (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) and Johanna Schnitzler (Downers Grove South HS, Woodridge, Ill.) who tied for first in the high jump with each clearing 4' 11".

 Also claiming wins for Augustana were Alyssa Tworek (Carmel Catholic HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.), who ran a 20:31.49 at 5000 meters to lead a first through third Augustana sweep; Hannah Hottle (Monmouth-Roseville HS, Monmouth, Ill.), whose 1:01.01 in the 400 led a one through four Viking sweep; Brittney Bennett (Annawan HS, Annawan, Ill.), who won the 200 in :27.40 and Ella Mathieson (Lyons Township HS, LaGrange, Ill.) who went 17' ¾" in the long jump.

 The Viking 4x800 relay team also won, running a 9:49.79. That unit consisted of Sarahbeth Jones (Warren Township HS, Wadsworth, Ill.), Hottle, Meaghan Reaney (Lincoln-Way Central HS, New Lenox, Ill.) and Rachael Latham (Burlington Central HS, Elgin, Ill.).

 Beauchamp (34' 0"), Mathieson (34' 7½") and Schnitzler (2:37.45) also claimed second-place finishes in the shot, triple jump and 800, respectively.

 Melissa Lehpamer (Plainfield South HS, Plainfield, Ill.) (7:36.21) and Britton Dallas (International School of Indiana, Indianapolis, Ind.) (8:21.68) finished second and third behind Brittany Prazak in the 2000 while Tara Bistry (Joliet Catholic HS, Shorewood, Ill.) and Angela Norton (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) were second and third behind Tworek at 5000 meters. Bistry finished in 20:45.36 and Norton in 22:49.72. Amy Walsh (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.), Jones and Jennifer Prazak (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.) finished second through fourth, respectively, behind Hottle in the 400, running 1:03.31, 1:03.68 and 1:06.03.

 Kristyn Barton (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.), Kelsey Moon (Mundelein HS, Wauconda, Ill.) and Lauren Banda (Downers Grove North HS, Woodridge, Ill.) went second, fourth and fifth at 500 meters. Barton ran a 1:25.50, Moon a 1:31.28 and Banda a 1:34.98.

 Kirstillyn Pohlman (Zion Benton HS, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.), Emily Margosian (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) and Jennifer Prazak were second, fourth and fifth, respectively, behind Smith at 300 meters. Pohlman finished in :45.59, Margosian in :46.41 and Prazak in :47.93.

 In the 3000, Sarah Johnson (Warren Township HS, Wadsworth, Ill.) was second in 11:27.60 and teammates Kelsey Stockert (Peoria Notre Dame HS, Mapleton, Ill.) (11:51.05) and Emma Grandgeorge (Sycamore HS, Sycamore, Ill.) (12:05.80) were fourth and fifth.

 The Augustana 4x400 relay team of Smith, Walsh, Pohlman and Jennifer Prazak claimed a second-place finish as well, finishing in 4:15.55.

 In the high jump, Kristin Klouda (West Chicago HS, Winfield, Ill.), Jennifer Prazak and Megan Garvey (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.) finished tied for third behind Schneiderbauer and Schnitzler, with each clearing 4' 7".

 Melanie Battistoni (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) and Bethany Siwek (Woodstock HS, Woodstock, Ill.) were third and fifth behind Beauchamp in the shot with respective tosses of 32' 8½" and 31' 8". Amber Gruber (Rolling Meadows HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) (40' 10½"), Siwek (35' 10") and Battistoni (34' 1½") finished third, fourth and fifth in the weight throw.

 Samantha Bazely (Alleman HS, Coal Valley, Ill.) and Garvey were third and fourth in the triple jump. Bazely went 31' 3 ¼" while Garvey leapt 28' 9 ¾". Schneiderbauer (14' 3¾") and Bazely (14' 2¼") finished fourth and fifth in the long jump.

 In the pole vault, Mathieson and Taylor Tjardes (Gibson City/Melvin-Sibley HS, Gibson City, Ill.) each cleared 8' 8" to tie for third behind Hillyer. Megan Lecander (Sherrard HS, Sherrard, Ill.) was fifth with a vault of 7' 8". Amanda Pease (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) and Amanda Rodriguez (Mahomet-Seymour HS, Mahomet, Ill.) were third and fourth at 800 meters, running 2:43.02 and 2:46.17, respectively.

 At 1000 meters, Annie Heifner was third in 3:25.49, Angela Pisani (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) fourth in 3:31.89 and Kristen Whiteside (Zion Benton HS, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) fifth in 3:34.52. Pisani (5:37.24) and Whiteside (5:54.26) were fourth and fifth in the mile as well.

 Smith ran an :08.95 to finish fourth in the 55 hurdles and Valerie Bach (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) was fourth in the 200 with a time of :28.63. Bennett (:07.82) and Mathieson (:07.87) were fourth and fifth in the 55.

 The Vikings will host a dual meet with St. Ambrose on Thursday, February 17 at 5:00 p.m.
