2010-11 Season - Vikings stay in top five in NCAA ranking
![]() |
| Kyle Nelson and the Augustana Vikings are now ranked fifth in NCAA Division III. |
After falling to Carthage on Saturday, February 5 by a score of 65-58, Augustana dropped two slots in the NCAA Division III nation men’s basketball poll conducted by D3hoops.com. It was the first loss of the season for head coach Grey Giovanine’s Vikings, who are now 20-1 overall and 9-1 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin.
Last weekend, Augustana was not the only undefeated team to lose at home as number one ranked Wooster also fell. That caused a shake-up in the polls with Whitworth (21-0) moving into the top spot with 616 points and 19 first place votes. Williams jumped from fourth to second with 573 points and two first place votes. Amherst moved up from fifth to third with 556 points and three first place votes.
Wooster fell from number one to fourth with 552 points and one first place vote and Augustana is now fifth 522 points.
Augustana has a game lead in the loss column of the CCIW race over North Central. The Vikings will play their final four games of the regular season on the road, beginning with a battle at Wheaton on Wednesday, February 9 at 7:30 p.m.
A fixture in the national polls since Giovanine became head coach prior to 1999-00, the Vikings have now been ranked in the top 25 of the D3hoops.com poll for 82 weeks (out of a possible 171) since the website began doing the ranking.
