Senior Survey

The Senior Survey asks our graduating seniors about their experiences at Augustana and about their future plans. It helps us monitor student satisfaction with college services and programs, their participation in extra-curricular activities and special academic opportunities, self-assessments of growth in academic skills and future career or graduate school plans.

Recent highlights from the survey of the class of 2007:

  • Mean satisfaction with Augustana in general was 4.26 on a 5-point scale.
  • 93% of seniors were satisfied or very satisfied with the quality of instruction in their primary major.
  • Relative to their primary major, more than 90% of seniors indicated they were satisfied or very satisfied with the availability of faculty outside the classroom, the faculty attitude towards students, and our library facilities and services.
  • Over 93% of students indicated they were satisfied or very satisfied with our library facilities and services.
  • Augustana seniors showed increased interest in personal values we promote as a liberal arts college. Compared to when they entered as first-year students, the percentage of seniors who reported the following life objectives were essential or very important went up substantially: developing a meaningful philosophy of life went up from 39% to 80% (+41%), becoming a community leader also increased (+35%), as well as helping promote racial understanding (+31%) and helping others in difficulty (+23%).
  • When asked about their academic or personal growth due to experiences in their primary major, 69% of seniors indicated they grew greatly in thinking analytically/logically, 60% in acquiring knowledge/skills on their own, 60% in understanding themselves, and 60% in functioning effectively as a member of a team.
  • Augustana students take the opportunity to be active in a wide variety of co-curricular activities. 83% of seniors reported participating in volunteer or community service work, 50% in independent study/research, 49% joined a fraternity or sorority, 42% participated in an internship, 38% participated in intercollegiate athletics, 33% participated in study abroad, 27% participated in a Campus Ministries program, 25% were in a musical ensemble, 25% worked on a faculty member's research, and 20% worked on a student publication.
