Swedish Summer Program

Augustana's Summer School in Sweden (ASSIS) is a six-week program offering intensive Swedish language instruction at Grebbestads folkhögskola in the village of Grebbestad on the Swedish west coast.

The group will make use of this wonderful location to learn about the country and region by taking day trips and weekend excursion to Oslo (Norway) and Gothenburg (Sweden). Following the five weeks in Grebbestad, the group will travel to Stockholm to spend a week exploring the capital and its surrounding areas.

In Grebbestad, students board at the small school and enjoy its comfortable living areas. The food is good and abundant; but remember it is also Swedish, which means that the coffee is strong and there will be pickled herring on the breakfast table! All meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) taken at the folkhögskola in Grebbestad are included in the price of tuition and fees.

Courses

The language courses are designed to meet the needs of language learners of all levels, from beginner to advanced, which is equivalent to American college-level courses from first to fourth year Swedish. Four hours of instruction per day includes 3+ hours of language instruction and one lesson of Sweden 101, taught in English and covering a variety of topics in Swedish history, culture, traditions, calendar customs and social issues.
