What did you do before Augustana? I attended Oak Lawn Community High School. I was involved in band, speech team, theatre, softball and other service-based organizations. As an Augie student I was involved in Residential Life, lacrosse, student ambassadors, peer mentors, Biology Club, the Knowlton Honors Program, Concert Band, and proctored in the anatomy lab. I know there were a few other groups or organizations here and there, too!

Which departments do you act as a liaison for? Biology, Chemistry, Pre-Health

Do you do other activities around campus (coaching, student group advisor, etc.)? Advisor for Women's Club Lacrosse

What do you most love to tell prospective students about Augustana? Probably because I got to experience it, I like to talk to students about the cadaver lab on campus. It's just one example of an opportunity available here that most undergrad students don't have the option to pursue. I'm also always sure to say that every student should consider an international study opportunity - especially now with our Augie Choice program! That's my only Augustana regret, is that I didn't take advantage of studying abroad.

What is your favorite time/tradition of the Augustana school year? Basketball season is probably my favorite time of year at Augie - it makes the Midwestern winter more exciting.

What's great about the Quad Cities? The QC is a great mix of "city opportunities" and "small town friendliness." There's something to fit my interests with sports, the arts and outdoors activities. 

What do you like to do around the community? My favorite place in the QC is probably Niabi Zoo. I also enjoy running at the state park or near the river, going to Whitey's ice cream and visiting local restaurants like Harris Pizza, Bent River and Erwan. Our Comedy Sportz troupe is awesome too!

Why did you decide to work in this field and/or at Augustana? I worked in Admissions as a student ambassador all four years I attended Augie. I was fortunate that a position became available when I graduated, and I still to this day love my job and serving students & their families. It's not only sharing why a student should love Augie as much as I do, but really talking about what "fits" in their lives and college searches. Seeing that lightbulb turn on when students decide on Augie is the most gratifying part of my job.

What advice do you have for students who are searching for the right college for them? The best advice I can give is visit, visit again, and then visit one more time. There are 100+ schools across the country that could have your major, activity, or sport -- it really comes down to where the practical side of your college search meets your college instincts.
