Application requirements for homeschooled students:
If you are applying as a first-year student, your application to Augustana College will be complete once you submit the following items to the Office of Admissions.
-
Common Application. We encourage you to use the online Common Application .
-
Augustana College supplement. We encourage you to use the online Augustana College supplement.
-
Homeschooled Student Supplement Form. If you would like to download PDF versions of the Common Application, Augustana College supplement, and the Homeschooled Student Supplement Form you can fill them in electronically or by hand. Mail the forms to the Augustana College Office of Admissions. If you would like a paper version of the Common Application and supplement mailed to you, call the Augustana College Office of Admissions at (800)798-8100 or (300)794-7341.
-
Two letters of recommendation. Submit two letters of recommendation from people who know you well and who recognize and appreciate your work ethic. Examples may include homeschool instructors, clergy, employers, etc. We prefer these not be authored by a parent. Additional letters of recommendation are encouraged.
-
Official high school transcripts. Submit your official high school transcript. This can be obtained through your homeschool association. If you are not affiliated with a specific association, we will gladly accept a transcript put together by your homeschool teachers. Any transcript, including a narrative transcript, should be designed to indicate how effectively a student has completed the requirements for admission to Augustana College, outlined in the section on our website describing the high school record.
-
Standardized test scores. All applicants may submit scores from either the ACT or SAT. (Augustana College does not prefer one test over the other, and will consider the highest composite score.) You may wish to consult with your local high school or an independent counselor for test dates and registration information and procedures. Students can also elect to apply test-optional, without submitting their standardized test scores. To do so, students must complete the test optional process.
-
Writing sample. All applicants must submit examples of their writing. See the Common Application for details.
-
Admissions Interview (recommended, but optional). The admissions interview is highly recommended for all prospective students. For homeschooled students it is particularly beneficial because it will provide an opportunity for you to discuss your curriculum and learning experience, while we learn about your passions. Typically students who interview are admitted at a rate of 20% higher than those who do not. Learn more about the interview including how to schedule one.
-
Homeschooled addendum (recommended, but optional). As a homeschooled student you may also wish to include an addendum in the form of a brief essay to specifically discuss your experience being homeschooled.
-
Video Essay (recommended, but optional). Do you feel like the written essay on your application won't tell us your whole story? Was there something you wanted to tell us but didn't during your interview? Or do you just have some creative energy you'd like to put to use? Augustana College is offering you an opportunity to do all of the above by submitting a video essay that will supplement your application. Find out more at Augustana Video Essay.
*One other note: Homeschooled applicants are not required to take the GED.
