Homeschooled Student Application Procedure

To apply for admission, homeschooled students are asked to complete the Common Application, Augustana College Supplement and the Homeschooled Student Supplement Form. A paper version can be requested from the Augustana College Office of Admissions at (800)798-8100 or (309)794-7341.

The admissions interview is highly recommended for all prospective students. For homeschooled students it is particularly beneficial because it will provide an opportunity for you to discuss your curriculum and learning experience, while we learn about your passions. Please schedule your interview as soon as possible.

Submit your ACT or SAT scores to Augustana College (unless you are applying for test-optional admission). It's a good idea to take the ACT or SAT once in the junior year and again in the senior year. You may wish to consult with your local high school or an independent counselor for test dates and registration information and procedures.

Submit your official high school transcript. This can be obtained through your homeschool association. If you are not affiliated with a specific association, we will gladly accept a transcript put together by your homeschool teachers. Any transcript, including a narrative transcript, should be designed to indicate how effectively a student has completed the requirements for admission to Augustana College, outlined in the section describing the high school record.

Submit two letters of recommendation from people who know you well and who recognize and appreciate your work ethic. Examples may include homeschool instructors, clergy, employers, etc. Additional letters of recommendation are encouraged.

Submit a writing sample. You may submit any of the following:
A graded paper
A short essay
A personal statement

As a homeschooled student you may also wish to include an addendum in the form of a brief essay to specifically discuss your experience being homeschooled.

Homeschooled applicants are not required to take the GED.
