Marsha Smith came to Augustana College in 1982 and teaches in the Sociology Department, Women and Gender Studies Program, and the Asian Studies program. She was the 2007 and will be the 2010 Co-director of the East Asian Term and currently serves on the Executive Board of ASIANetwork.
She currently researches changes in Chinese family life and will be presenting a paper on mother-in-law/daughter-in-law relationships in Kunming, China this summer.
In addition to her publications, she is the former editor of The ASIANetwork Exchange, and the 2008 Fall guest editor of Sociological Imagination. She was the treasurer and is the current Past President of the Illinois Sociological Association. In October of 2000 she received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Chicago Consulate-General Office of the P.R. China; one of only 7 awards in given in the Midwest Region.
