Economics

Studying economics enhances one's ability to reason about choices and the consequences of those choices. In a world in which resources are scarce, choices must be made at all levels-from individual consumers and firms, to society as a whole. Students learn about past and current events, and have the perspective to apply economic reasoning to future problems. They become thoughtful citizens who are well prepared for either advanced study or employment in the field.

Why Study Economics at Augustana?

Economics provides a foundation that is useful in everyday life, professional life, and as a complement to other fields of study.

  • Many Augustana economics majors also pursue another major or minor.
  • Typically, economics majors also study business administration or accounting.
  • Some students combine the economics major with the study of mathematics, languages, natural science, or other social sciences.

Our program is sufficiently rigorous to prepare students to excel in well-regarded graduate programs.
