What you need to know to access our network

You will need a network card for your laptop that conforms to the 802.11b or 802.11g standards. This card will fit into the PCMCIA slot on your laptop, or it may be built-in to your laptop.

Install the drivers for your card if they did not come loaded on your computer.

Then you will need to locate a WiFi hotspot (see the list above for on campus locations). A hotspot is a wireless access point hardwired to the school's network. Up to 100 computers can access this point from a distance up to 100 feet.

On newer computers the wireless card will automatically detect the network and you just need to open your browser and you can be on the Internet. On older computers you may have to click the icon for your wireless card in the system tray in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Click the Search button and a list of hotspots will show up, just double click on the one you wish to connect to. If the search feature does not work there will be a place to enter the SSID of the hotspot. On our network id is augustana.

The first time you connect to Augustana's wireless network, you will need to register your computer by filling out basic information and entering your Augustana login and password. Then you will need to reboot.
