2011 Season - Vikings win Wartburg's Lutheran Quadangular

WAVERLY, Iowa - Mike Tisza (Hersey HS, Prospect Heights, Ill.), Justin Smith (Fenton HS, Bensenville, Ill.) and Pat Zeunik (Bloomington Central Catholic HS, Bloomington,. Ill.) each set meet records to pace a big Augustana victory at the Lutheran Quadrangular at Wartburg College on Saturday. Tisza ran an 8:47.59 in the 3000. Smith finished the 1000 in 2:35.91 and Zeunik went 46' 2¾" in the triple jump to help the Vikings pile up 316 points and outdistance Wartburg (173), Grand View (139) and Carl Sandburg (4).
The Viking distance medley relay team consisting of Cody Sharko (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.), Devon Pace (Byron HS, Byron, Ill.), Tyler Busch (Winnebago HS, Winnebago, Ill.) and Andrew Allabastro (Lyons Township HS, LaGrange, Ill) also set a meet record, winning in 10:56.18.
Greg Patton (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) led a one through four Viking sweep at 400 meters. Patton ran a winning :51.22, followed by Matthew Dickey (Benet Academy, Downers Grove, Ill.) in :51.58, James Wood (St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) in :51.69 and Ryan Brummett (Riverdale HS, Port Byron, Ill.) in :51.76
Brian Pollastrini (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) led a one through five Augustana sweep in the mile. Pollastrini ran a 4:28.11, followed by teammates Thomas Christian (Port Angeles HS, Port Angeles, Wash.) (4:33.03), Tommy Harris (Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) (4:35.25), Kyle McNicholas (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) (4:36.85) and Tim Faith-Rosley (Glenbrook South HS, Glenview, Ill.) (4:37.86).
Eric Chalus (Rochelle HS, Rochelle, Ill.) in the pole vault and Greg Davis (Carlinville HS, Carlinville, Ill.) in the 55-meter hurdles also picked up wins. Chalus led a sweep of spots one thru five, clearing 14' 5¼" while Davis ran a winning :08.05. Colton VanKirk (Rochelle HS, Rochelle, Ill.) (13' 11¼"), Alex Stake (Williamsville HS, Sherman, Ill.) (13' 5¼"), A.J. Nice (Christian Life HS, Caledonia, Ill.) (13' 5¼") and Erik Hansen (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) (12' 11½") finished in spots two through five behind Chalus. Brandan Bradley (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) and Pat Callan (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) were third and fourth behind Davis in the 55 hurdles. Bradley finished in :08.29 and Callan ran an :08.61.
Brian Benning (Winnebago HS, Winnebago, Ill.) surpassed the previous meet record in the weight throw with a second place heave of 53' 9". Phil Christensen (Kaneland HS, Maple Park, Ill.) was fourth with a mark of 51' 2¼". They also went fourth and fifth in the shot, with Benning recording a toss of 45' 8" and Christensen 44' 7½".
Matt Bowman (Geneva HS, Elburn, Ill.) and Brandon Gittelman (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) were second and fourth, respectively, behind Tisza at 3000 meters. Bowman finished in 8:54.88 and Gittelman in 9:29.93.
Stake (3,039) and Joshua Eisenberg (Richmond-Burton, Spring Grove, Ill.) (2,373) finished second and fifth in the pentathlon. Nick Sinon (Kaneland HS, Elburn, Ill.) and Justin Davidson (Galesburg HS, Galesburg, Ill.) were also second and fifth in the high jump. Sinon cleared 6' 5½" and Davidson 5' 11½". Jason Langslet (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.), Matt Somers (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) and Edgardo Valle (Kaneland HS, Elburn, Ill.) finished second through fifth in the 600. Langslet surpassed the previous meet and fieldhouse records with a 1:23.96 as did Somers with his time of 1:24.21. Valle finished in 1:24.55. Greg Weigand (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.), Dennis O'Flaherty (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) and Luke Chvatal (Glenbard East HS, Lombard, Ill.) finished second, fourth and fifth at 800 meters. Weigand bettered the previous meet record with his second-place 2:01.14 while O'Flaherty and Chvatal finised in 2:03.33 and 2:03.57, respectively.
The Viking 4x400 relay team picked up a second place finish as well. Alex Rindone (Marmion Academy, Geneva, Ill.), Steve Zahrobsky (Downers Grove South HS, Woodridge, Ill.), Brummett and Chris Madison (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) combined to run a 3:28.00. Rindone also finished fourth in the 55 with a time of :06.73.
Zeunik and Mike Tovar (Mooseheart, Chicago, Ill.) were third and fourth in the long jump with leaps of 21' 5 ¼" and 20' 11 ¼", respectively and Davidson and Scott Pospisil (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) were third and foruth behind Zeunik in the triple jump. Davidson went 40' 2¼" and Pospisil 40' 2".
Busch finished fourth in the 1000 with a time of 2:42.17 and the Augustana 4x200 relay team of Davis, Jesse Alexander (Cedar Falls HS, Cedar Falls, Iowa), Kyle Williams (Lake Zurich HS, Lake Zurich, Ill.) and Jacob O'Rourke (Assumption HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) finished third in 1:37.99.
