2010-11 Season - Augustana stays eighth in NCAA poll

George Dexter and the Augustana Vikings are 15-0 and ranked eighth in NCAA Division III.

Two victories last week allowed Augustana to move to 15-0 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin. The Vikings also stayed at eighth in the NCAA Division III national rankings. Augustana added 20 points to its total of a week ago, moving from 443 to 463, but didn’t budge in the ranking.

Last week Augustana used a pair of sterling defensive efforts to defeat Wheaton (70-57 at home on January 12) and Carthage (58-54 in Kenosha, Wisconsin on January 15). The Vikings will host Millikin on Wednesday, January 19 and North Central on Saturday, January 22. Both games will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

Only seven teams remain undefeated in the top 25 of the D3hoops.com weekly poll. Augustana can tie a school record with a victory over Millikin on Wednesday night. The school record for consecutive victories to start a season is 16, set by the 1935-36 team in a 16-0 start.

A fixture in the national polls since Giovanine became head coach prior to 1999-00, the Vikings have now been ranked in the top 25 of the D3hoops.com poll for 79 weeks (out of a possible 168) since the website began doing the ranking.
