![]() |
| Troy Rorer and the Vikings have moved to ninth in the latest NCAA Division III national poll, according to D3hoops.com. Augustana opens the CCIW portion of its schedule on Wednesday, January 5 at North Park. |
Three victories away from the friendly confines of the Carver Center not only allowed Augustana to maintain its unbeaten record at 11-0 but it paved the way for a slight jump in the NCAA Division III national polls. Veteran head coach Grey Giovanine's team moved up one spot to ninth in the weekly NCAA Division III national ranking compiled by D3hoops.com .
It was a busy post-Christmas schedule for the Vikings as they traveled to DePere, Wisconsin on December 29-30 for the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament and then headed to the University of Chicago on January 2. Augustana defeated Wisconsin-Stout by a score of 81-75 in the first round of the NNBHT and the next night defeated 12 th ranked St. Norbert 57-56 in the championship game.
Junior forward Bryant Voiles (Byron HS, Byron, Ill.) was selected as the Most Valuable Player and he was joined on the all-tournament team by senior Kyle Nelson (Deerfield HS, Deerfield, Ill.) and sophomore Kameron Norton (Downers Grove North HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) .
On Sunday, January 2, the Vikings rallied from 10 points down with 14 minutes left to play to defeat Chicago 63-56 as Voiles led the way with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Voiles was named the ‘Player of the Week” in the CCIW for his work in the three victories.
Augustana is now 11-0 for the first time since 1935-36 and will open College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play on Wednesday, January 5 against North Park in Chicago, Illinois at 7:30 p.m.
Wooster is the number one ranked team in the nation with 601 points and 14 first place votes. The Vikings, one of 11 teams at the NCAA Division III level still undefeated, garnered 427 points and are now in ninth place in the weekly poll.
