2010-11 Season - Voiles named "Player of the Week" in the CCIW
|Junior forward Bryant Voiles was named the "Player of the Week" in the CCIW after helping Augustana to three victories in the week ending January 2. Voiles was named the Most Valuable Player in the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament as the Vikings defeated 12th ranked St. Norbert in the championship game.|
Junior Bryant Voiles (Byron HS, Byron, Ill.) has been selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin’s “Player of the Week” for his stellar performance in the week that ended on Sunday, January 2. Voiles, a 6’ 9”, 205 pound forward, was instrumental in helping Augustana win three games after the Christmas holiday.
He was named the Most Valuable Player in the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament at St. Norbert College in DePere, Wisconsin. He scored 16 points in the Vikings’ 81-75 victory over Wisconsin-Stout on December 29 in the first round of the NNBHT, connecting on 12 of 15 free throws while pulling down 10 rebounds with three assists. In the championship game, a 57-56 victory over 12th ranked St. Norbert on December 30; Voiles scored eight points on three of six shooting, including two of four from three point range.
Voiles closed out the week with game-leading totals of 19 points and 10 rebounds as Augustana won at the University of Chicago 63-56 on Sunday, January 2. He had an assist and made all four of his free throws in the final minute of the game to help turn back the Maroons as the Vikings moved to 11-0 for the first time since 1935-36.
For the week Voiles averaged 14.3 points (43 points in three games) and 6.7 rebounds (20 rebounds in three games including nine on the offensive end) and had seven assist and two blocked shots. He was also 16 of 19 (.842) from the free throw line.
Augustana is currently ranked 10th in NCAA Division III with an 11-0 record and the Vikings open CCIW action on Wednesday, January 5 at North Park. Voiles has played and started in all 11 games this season and he is the third leading scorer on the team with a 12.8 average. He is also pulling down 4.9 rebounds per game to go along with a team high 31 assists, eight blocked shots and six steals. He is shooting .466 (41-88) from the field and .435 (20-46) from three point range and has connected on 39 of 53 (.736) free throws.
The son of Marty and Sue Voiles of Byron, Bryant is an accounting and business administration major.
