2010 Season - Vikings help Team Stars & Stripes to victory

Valuable contributions from three Augustana senior football players helped lead Team Stars & Stripes to a convincing 48-7 victory over Mexico on Saturday, December 18 at the 2010 version of Tazon de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars). The game was played at la Congoloadora Stadium in Toluca, Mexico and featured Team Stars & Stripes, a collection of NCAA Division III all-stars and Team Mexico.
Linebacker Johnny Mago (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.), offensive tackle Drew Hansen (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) and defensive end Curt Perschnick (Dwight HS, Dwight, Ill.) represented Augustana and all three played significant roles. In addition, former head coach Jim Barnes was on the Team Stars & Stripes coaching staff.
Perschnick led Team Stars & Stripes in tackles from his defensive end position. He had four solos and two assists for a total of six and he also recorded two tackles for losses of four yards. He had a forced fumble and a quarterback sack as well. Mago recorded two tackles, one solo and one assist. The Team Stars & Stripes defense held Mexico to just 158 yards of total offense (six rushing and 152 passing) and only 11 first downs in the contest.
Hansen was elected as one of Team Stars & Stripes captains and he was instrumental in helping the offense pile up 475 yards of total offense (105 rushing and 370 passing), as well as 48 points.
