2010-11 Season - Undefeated Vikings stay 10th in poll

It was a light week of action in the NCAA Division III ranks and Augustana stayed at 10 th in the weekly NCAA Division III national ranking compiled by D3hoops.com . The Vikings picked up a pair of wins last week, defeating Wisconsin-Whitewater 70-64 on Wednesday, December 15 at home and then beating MacMurray 53-50 on the road on Monday, December 20 in Jacksonville, Illinois.
With those two victories, head coach Grey Giovanine's team moved to 8-0 on the season heading into the Christmas break. Augustana accumulated 388 points and stayed in 10 th place in the national poll. The number one team continues to be College of Wooster with an 8-0 record and 594 points. The Scots garnered 11 first place votes. A total of six teams (Wooster, Williams – 5, Virginia Wesleyan – 3, Wisconsin-Stevens Point – 4, Whitworth – 1 and Wabash – 1) received first place votes. Augustana remains one of 10 undefeated teams ranked in the top 25.
After beating MacMurray 53-50 on Monday, in a game which saw the Vikings with a 15 point lead (47-32) with 8:58 to go, Augustana will be off until after Christmas. The Vikings will travel to DePere, Wisconsin for the St. Norbert Tournament on December 29-30. The first round opponent will be Wisconsin-Stout and a win in that game could set up an interesting battle with St. Norbert, currently ranked 12 th in NCAA Division III with a 7-1 record.
Augustana is ranked for the fifth consecutive week this season and for the 76 th time since the D3hoops.com poll was started in 2000-01. The Vikings have climbed steadily this year, starting at 24 th in the pre-season before jumping all the way to 12 th in the first regular season poll. After a slip back to 13 th in week two, they have been at 10 th for the last two weeks.
