TOLUCA, MEXICO - Augustana senior offensive lineman Drew Hansen (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) has been selected one of four captains for Team Stars & Stripes in Saturday's Tazón de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars). Hansen will be competing, along with Viking teammates John Mago (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) and Curt Perschnick (Dwight HS, Dwight, Ill.), in the annual game pitting NCAA Division III senior all-stars--Team Stars & Stripes--against the CONADEIP all-stars of Mexico.
Hansen will serve as a captain on offense with receiver Frank Ross of John Carroll. Defensive lineman Austin Hill of Central (Iowa) and safety Jesse Richards of Ohio Northern were selected as defensive captains.
Team Stars & Stripes will be led by coach Bill Manlove--former head man at Widener, Delaware Valley and LaSalle--whose staff includes former Augustana head coach Jim Barnes. "We feel very strongly that these four young men are deserving of the honor of serving as team captains of Team Stars & Stripes," said Manlove. "All four have worked hard and been good leaders all week. We really do have many, many players that would have been outstanding captains that were leaders of their teams back in the United States. We are very excited about this year's team and are looking forward to Saturday's game."
The 6'3", 260-pound Hansen was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter for Augustana. He served as a team captain for the Vikings this year and was a second team All-College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin selection.
