Dean of Admissions

Augustana College seeks a creative, dynamic and experienced leader to assume the newly-reconfigured position of Dean of Admissions, which will oversee the Office of Admissions.  The Dean will report to the Vice President of Enrollment, Communication and Planning, and will be a key member of an enrollment team that includes admissions, financial assistance, communications and marketing, and planning. This position requires a strong tactical leader with a strategic approach to marketing and recruitment that focuses on attracting and retaining a diverse student body.

Candidates for the Dean of Admissions position should have an interest in and capacity for working in an energetic and innovative environment, coupled with sensitivity to the pace of change needed to implement new ideas and to the tradition that has brought the College successfully to its 150th year. A successful candidate will be a strong advocate for private education and an articulate spokesperson for the importance of a liberal arts education.
Essential attributes include demonstrated skill in managing, leading, inspiring and mentoring staff; awareness of market and societal trends affecting undergraduates at selective institutions; competency in data analysis and familiarity with current technologies and trends; a keen understanding of the critical role that financial aid plays in an enrollment management program; excellent organizational and planning skills; and exemplary relationship-building skills with both internal and external constituents. In addition, the ideal candidate will have the experience and personality to partner successfully with the Vice President of Enrollment, Communication and Planning in developing and implementing initiatives which will continue to enhance the college’s visibility and recognition in a highly-competitive landscape. Ten to fifteen years of increasing responsibility and experience at a liberal arts college is highly desirable. Preferred personal qualities include: a collaborative style, a sense of humor, personal charisma, energy, optimism, resilience and a willingness to consider new ideas.
