2010-11 Season - Vikings ranked 13th in latest NCAA poll

The Augustana Vikings dropped one slot in the NCAA Division III men’s basketball rankings according to the second poll of the 2010-11 season, which was announced today. The Vikings went from 12 th to 13 th in the D3hoops.com national poll.
Augustana is now 4-0 on the season and last week won its only game, a 66-5 decision at Monmouth on Wednesday, December 1. The Vikings of head coach Grey Giovanine have wins over Simpson (85-66 on November 16), Washington (78-55 on November 22) and Anderson 74-69) on November 27 in addition to the victory over Monmouth.
Senior Kyle Nelson (Deerfield HS, Deerfield, Ill.) continues to lead Augustana in both scoring and rebounding. He is scoring at a 20.5 per game clip and is averaging 7.5 rebounds. He is shooting .681 (32-47) from the field and .857 (18-21) from the free throw line.
Joining Nelson in double figures is junior guard Chris Anderson (West Carroll HS, Mt. Carroll, Ill.) and junior forward Bryant Voiles (Byron HS, Byron, Ill.). Anderson is averaging 15.5 points and Voiles is chipping in at 10.8 points per game.
Once again, the Vikings continue to excel on the defensive end as they are allowing just 62.2 points per game and opponents are shooting .445 (85-191) from the floor. Augustana has been outstanding on the offensive end, averaging 75.8 points and hitting .516 (111-215) from the field and .738 (59-80) from the free throw line.
Another area where the Vikings have excelled is in rebounding where they hold a 36.2 to 23.8 advantage over their opponents.
Augustana is making its 74 th appearance in the D3hoops.com national poll since the 2000-01 season. The Vikings have been in either the top 25 or listed “others receiving votes” 115 times.
The Vikings will play tomorrow night (Wednesday, December 8) at home against St. Ambrose. Tip-off for that contest is set for 7:30 p.m. and the Bees will come into the game with a 7-1 overall record and ranked 13 th in NAIA.
