2010 Season - Robert Wood claims CCIW Player of the Week
|Robert Wood was named the CCIW's "Offensive Player of the Week" after his performance in the Vikings 20-17 victory over Illinois Wesleyan to close out the 2010 season. Wood gained 181 yards on 30 carries in the win.|
Augustana senior running back Robert Wood (Rockford Boylan HS, Loves Park, Ill.) ended his career on a high note with an outstanding performance in a 20-17 victory over Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, November 13 at Ericson Field. As a result of his effort, Wood has been selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin “Offensive Player of the Week”.
He gained a career high 181 yards on 30 carries as Augustana won its final game to wrap up the season with a 6-4 overall record and a 4-3 mark in the CCIW, good for third place. The win secured the 31st winning season in the last 32 years for the Vikings.
Wood’s performance is the highest single game yardage total since Mike Guzman gained 220 yards against Central of Iowa in the opening game of the 2005 season. He finished the season with 698 yards rushing on 154 attempts with seven touchdowns. He also caught nine passes for 75 yards with two touchdowns and led the team in scoring with nine touchdowns for 54 points.
During his career he gained 1680 yards on 330 attempts for an average of 5.1 yards per carry. He scored a total of 18 touchdowns (16 rushing and two receiving) for 108 total points.
Wood is a tremendous student with a grade point average of 3.90 while majoring in biology (pre-medicine). He was a semi-finalist for the National Football Foundation’s Campbell Award and he will be nominated for an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
The son of Janet and Todd Wood of Loves Park, Illinois, Robert is the third Augustana player to earn CCIW “Player of the Week” honors this season.
