2010-11 Season - Wins in eight of 11 events pave way over Millikin

Kennan Hootman placed in three events, including taking second in the 1000 freestyle as the Vikings defeated Millikin 112-65 in swimming action on Saturday, October 30 in Decatur, Illinois.

While the Augustana women had to scratch and claw their way to victory on Saturday, October 30 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois, it was a different story on the men’s side. The Vikings won easily by a score of 112-65, taking first in eight of the 11 events.

Augustana won seven individual events and one relay and had six different swimmers triumph on the day in the non-relay swims. Freshman Justin Reppy (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) was the lone individual double winner as he took first in the 1000 freestyle (10:45.93) and the 500 freestyle (5:11.01) events. He also added the second leg on the winning 200 freestyle relay team that went 1:34.86 in the final event of the day. Reppy was joined on that relay by freshman Daniel Hinck (Harlem HS, Loves Park, Ill.), freshman Austin Zarbuck (Urbana HS, Urbana, Ill.) and junior Charlie Vogt (Oak Park-River Forest HS, Oak Park, Ill.).

Hinck won the 200 freestyle in 1:50.55 and took second in the 100 freestyle in :50.91. Charlie Vogt won the 50 freestyle in :23.89 and placed third in the 100 freestyle (:52.18). Charlie’s sophomore brother Harrison Vogt (Oak Park-River Forest HS, Oak Park, Ill.) won the 100 backstroke in 1:06.47 and was third in the 50 freestyle (:24.59).

Freshman Jasen Hengst (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) won the 200 individual medley in 2:17.29 and finished second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.88. Zarbruck won the 100 butterfly in 1:00.50 and took third in the 200 freestyle in 1:56.91.

Senior Kennan Hootman (Addison Trail HS, Addison, Ill.) had a busy afternoon, taking second in the 1000 freestyle (15:54.58), fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:30.03) and fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:35.22). Freshman Ryan Chaney (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:26.61 and fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.61. Junior Denny Wind (Downers Grove North HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) placed third in the 100 backstroke in 1:14.40.  The 200 medley relay team of Hengst, Chaney, Wind and Harrison Vogt began the meet with a second place finish in 1:55.56.
