2010 Season - Vikings split in first day at Benedictine

Sophomore setter Kelsey Mikula had a total of 46 setting assists as the Vikings split a pair of matches on Friday, October 30 at the Benedictine Tournament.

Augustana split its opening two matches at the Benedictine Tournament in Lisle, Illinois on Friday, October 30. The Vikings lost to Trinity International 3-0 in the first match and then beat William Penn 3-0 in the second match. Augustana is now 11-18 overall.

AUGUSTANA 3, WILLIAM PENN 0 (25-19; 25-21; 25-22)

After losing to Trinity International  in the first round of the Benedictine Tournament, Augustana bounced back nicely with a 3-0 win over William Penn on Friday, October 30 in Lisle, Illinois. The Vikings won by scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-22.
Two Augustana players were in double digits in kills with senior Courtney Jungnickel (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) leading the way with 15. Freshman Morgan Stittleburg (Black River Falls HS, Black River Falls, Wis.) was right behind her with 11. Jungnickel had 15 digs, one block solo and one setting assist. Stittleburg had a pair of digs with one setting assist and one service ace. Freshman Kristen Yerkes (Marist HS, Palos Heights, Ill.) had eight kills, as did sophomore

Brianna Skeens (Vernon Hills HS, Libertyville, Ill.). Yerkes had 12 digs while Skeens had one dig and two blocks.
Sophomore Kelsey Mikula (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) led the team in setting assists with 27 while freshman Katrina Colclasure (Tri-Valley HS, Bloomington, Ill.) had 17. Sophomore Shannon Slick (Rockton Hononegah HS, Roscoe, Ill.) contributed 14 digs.

TRINITY INTERNATIONAL 3, AUGUSTANA 0 (25-23; 25-13; 25-23)

Augustana fell to Trinity International in the first match of Benedictine Tournament on Friday, October 30 in Lisle, Illinois. The Vikings were swept in three games but the first and third games were very close as the Blue & Gold fell by scores of 25-23 in each of those contests.

Senior Courtney Jungnickel (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) led Augustana on offense with 12 kills and she also had a team high 22 digs. She added a service ace and one solo block. Junior Brianna Skeens (Vernon Hills HS, Libertyville, Ill.) had seven kills and three assisted blocks while freshman Morgan Stittleburg (Black River Falls HS, Black River Falls, Wis.) had six kills with three assisted blocks and two digs.

Sophomore Kelsey Mikula (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) had a team high 19 setting assists with three service aces and nine digs. Freshman Katrina Colclasure (Tri-Valley HS, Bloomington, Ill.) had seven setting assists. Sophomore Shannon Slick (Rockton Hononegah HS, Roscoe, Ill.) had 18 digs.
