2010-11 Season - Vikings tabbed for 3rd in CCIW

Junior Brian DeSimone was the starting point guard in 2009-10 and led the team in assists. DeSimone and the Vikings are tabbed for third in the CCIW according to the annual pre-season coaches poll.

Coming off a 16-10 overall record in 2009-10 and a 9-5 mark in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, the Augustana Vikings once again figure to be in the thick of the hunt for a league title. The CCIW coaches voted Augustana third in the 2010-11 pre-season coaches poll, which was released today.

Carthage, the defending CCIW champion, was given the nod in the top spot by the narrowest of margins. The Red Men collected 46 points with four first place votes. Illinois Wesleyan was second with 45 points, also with four first place votes. Augustana earned 37 points and is solidly in third place. Wheaton (32), North Park (22), North Central (19), Elmhurst (15) and Millikin (8) rounded out the field.

Augustana returns four starters and 13 letter winners from last year’s team. The Vikings will open the 2010-11 season on November 16 at Simpson in Indianola, Iowa.
