2010 Season - Vikings move to 3-1 in CCIW with win over IWU

Junior Brianna Skeens recorded 15 kills as Augustana defeated Illinois Wesleyan 3-1 in CCIW action on Tuesday night in the Carver Center. The Vikings have won eight of their last 13 matches and are now 9-13 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

The mid-season surge continues for the Augustana volleyball team as the Vikings defeated Illinois Wesleyan 3-1 (25-23; 22-25; 25-14; 25-20) in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin action on Tuesday, October 5 in the Carver Center. Augustana, which at one time was 1-8 this season, is now 9-13 overall and 3-1 in CCIW play.

The Vikings won for the eighth time in the last 13 matches and once again the hitting duo of senior Courtney Jungnickel (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) and junior Brianna Skeens (Vernon Hills HS, Libertyville, Ill.) led the offense. Jungnickel had 19 kills with just three errors in 47 attempts for a .340 hitting percentage. She added 17 digs and one assisted block to the mix. Skeens had 15 kills with five errors in 32 attempts for a .312 percentage. She had a service aces, three digs and one assisted block.

Freshman Kristen Yerkes (Marist HS, Palos Heights, Ill.) pitched in with nine kills, six service aces and 14 digs while freshman Stephanie Huber (Sycamore HS, Sycamore, Ill.) had five kills, one setting assist and one service ace.

Sophomore Kelsey Mikula (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) had 47 setting assists, 13 digs, two service aces, two kills and one assisted block. Sophomore Shannon Slick (Rockton Hononegah HS, Roscoe, Ill.) had 16 digs, two service aces and one setting assist.

The Vikings recorded 12 service aces and had a hitting percentage of .278 with 54 kills and 17 errors in 133 total attempts.

Illinois Wesleyan dropped to 9-12 overall and 0-4 in the CCIW.
