2010 Season - Huge jump to 14th in national poll for MCC

A second place finish at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational on Friday, September 24 helped propel Augustana to 14th in the most recent NCAA Division III national cross country poll. The Vikings were 28th a week ago. They are also sixth in the NCAA Midwest Region rankings.

After an impressive second place finish at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational on Friday, September 24 at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Illinois, Augustana made a huge jump in the NCAA Division III men’s cross country national ranking. Veteran head coach Paul Olsen’s team had been 28 th in the nation according to the US Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association poll last week. Thanks to the tremendous outing last weekend, the Vikings vaulted all the way to 14 th in the poll that was released today.

The Vikings accumulated 167 points and are also ranked sixth in the Midwest Regional, one spot higher than last week’s seventh spot.

Augustana won the Western Illinois Invitational on September 3 in Macomb, Illinois and then placed fourth at the 32-team Illinois Intercollegiate Championships on September 17 in Normal, Illinois. The next competition for the Vikings will be at the Wartburg Invitational on October 9 in Waverly, Iowa.
