Thomas F. Mayer published the second of a series of articles on Galileo's trial, "The Roman Inquisition's Precept to Galileo (1616)" in British Journal for the History of Science, 43:3 (2010), pp. 327-51. It demonstrates from a close reading of eight texts that Galileo probably got the precept (order) to cease and desist from defending Copernicus's ideas, in the strongest possible form. The precept became the hinge of the second phase of Galileo's trial in 1632-33. The article's publication also led to an interview for the article "Sloopy Records Cast Galileo's Trial in New Light" for the online journal LiveScience (http://www.livescience.com/history/galilieo-trials-roman-inquisition-100930.html).
