Volume 8, Issue 4 - September 13, 2010This Week's Message
This time of year, people commonly discuss what they accomplished over the summer. Even both my young daughters have been asked what they did over the summer, as they've rejoined and met new friends and teachers at school. I have always enjoyed the back-and-forth on this topic, because of the good memories and sense of achievement. However, this year I find myself thinking much more about what I have been asked to do, rather than what I have done.
This week at the Friday Conversation I have the opportunity to share a little bit about "what I have been asked to do this fall." Along with colleagues from across campus, I have been challenged to think about three distinct but interrelated topics at the college. The three areas include:
- considering an addendum to Authentically Augustana;
- reviewing our Campus Master Plan and identifying capital needs and priorities for the future, and
- exploring the possibility of combining the library with a dining and student center.
Thus far the work we are doing related to these three areas is imaginative and respectful of our values as a college. Please join me for a discussion of the issues we are considering.
I hope to see you on Friday afternoon.
Kent Barnds
Vice President of the College
