Plans after graduation
I will be living in Rock Island for a year with my friend Alex Ilseman. I have two internships this summer, one with the Davenport Freight House Farmers' Market and the other is with the City of Rock Island, Public Works Administration Department. I will be taking the time to do research on graduate programs for Public Administration, as well as continuing to work on my own personal academic research regarding public policy and Geographic Information Systems.
How did Augustana prepare you for life after graduation?
This question is a rather strange question. It should read, "How have you prepared for your life after graduation while attending Augustana?" Augustana College is, by definition, a business. A business cannot, nor should it, try to prepare humans for anything. It is up to the individual to prepare one's self for life after graduation, and thus, I feel that I have prepared more than adequately for life post-Augustana by realizing this.
What are you looking forward to about life after graduation?
I am looking forward to having more income coming in than out (I am keeping my fingers crossed about this one). More importantly than pecuniary desires, I look forward to utilizing my knowledge and the skills that I have acquired and developed over the past four years to become a positive contributor to my community, country and planet.
What will you miss about Augustana?
The college lifestyle will be missed. I like having a healthy schedule of class time, work, and ample socializing. It will be difficult to transition away from the lifestyle that I have enjoyed for the past four years, but I will not miss finals, busy work or all-nighters.
What was your favorite memory from Augie?
Well, let me just say that my favorite memories at Augustana College are the very personal experiences that I had with my friends that forever altered my perception of my own being and of the universe that we all reside within. A simple, yet poetic way of answering this is that my favorite memory of Augustana is my collective memory of Augustana. They (my memories) are all connected and cherished.
What advice would you give to current students?
My advice is to stay light hearted, be humble and strive to find a healthy balance between being a social creature and a scholar-in-training. Tempus fugit, so make the most of it while you have it! (And take Latin with Dr. Kramer if you don't know what tempus fugit means!)
