Hometown: Carol Stream, Illinois
Major: Biology (Pre-med)
Plans after graduation
I will be attending Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine beginning in July 2010.
How did Augustana prepare you for life after college?
The academic rigor of my biology classes has taught me not only good study habits and solid teamwork skills, but also how I best learn as a student. My other classes including my Latin American Studies minor and foreign term abroad in South America have opened my eyes to a much larger world beyond the borders of my native Illinois. The close-knit Augustana community has been incredible in terms of my personal development.
What are you looking forward to about life after graduation?
The ability to further pursue my academic and professional interests on a higher level, as well as the new adventures that moving to a new big city brings!
What will you miss about Augustana?
I think I will miss the close relationships that I have formed with my friends and professors the most. It is always hard to leave a place that you feel comfortable and secure in, and that is exactly what Augustana has been to me for the past four years.
What was your favorite memory from Augie?
I think that my favorite memory at Augustana did not occur on campus at all, but rather about 8000 miles south in Peru while on Latin American Term. I can remember standing at the summit of Macchu Piccu with my fraternity brothers watching the first rays of sunlight reach over the crests of the distant mountain tops and feeling the biggest sense of exhilaration imaginable and sharing it with my closest friends.
What advice would you give to current students?
Regardless of your future career path, make sure that you always strive to do your best academically. You don't have to be the top of your class, but don't sell yourself short. However, going overboard is never good either, have fun while you're here! Attempt to find that healthy balance between school and social activities. Get involved and try something new. College is going to be over before you know it, and Augustana is a great testing ground for new aspirations, and you never know where that might lead you in the future. Best wishes to the school and community that I must leave behind, it's been an awesome four year ride!
