Plans after graduation

In the Fall, I will be attending vet school at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

How did Augustana prepare you for life after college?

This seems to be a rather cliche answer, but Augustana has prepared me for life after graduation by helping me "learn how to think". (Many of) the courses I took here taught me valuable information that I will be able to use in vet school, but (most importantly) the professors also taught me how to apply this knowledge in many ways on many levels.

What are you looking forward to about life after graduation?

I am looking forward to finally being in vet school! It will be nice to work with the animals and learn all of the things for which I have been preparing for so many years.

What will you miss about Augustana?

I'm going to miss the relationships that I have developed with several professors. Their passion for teaching and desire to help each student on an personal, individual level have made all the difference to my college experience; it is nice to know that these professors really do care about me! I'm also going to miss the Augie Cheerleaders! Being part of this team has been an experience that is unique and unlike any other. In addition to helping me make many friends, cheerleading gave me the opportunity to get involved in the overall college community.

What was your favorite memory from Augie?

I have three favorite memories. 1) Cheerleading 2) the Nicaragua Spring 2010 JETS trip 3) Dr. Good and several other professors.

What advice would you give to current students?

1) My advice to current students is to find 2-3 groups in which you really want to participate and stick with those...do not give in to the temptation to over-commit! A student will feel less stressed and more involved if he or she remembers that "less is more". 2) Also, develop relationships with your professors. The relationships that I have cultivated with certain members of my department really made my college experience a positive one. One of the benefits of a small college is that you can get to know your professors personally...this is great if you need homework help or life advice!
