Plans after graduation
Teaching 5th, 7th, 8th grade band and assistant at the high school in the Prairie Central School District.
How did Augustana prepare you for life after college?
Augie has definitely prepared me with the skills I need to be a successful teacher. I have also developed time management skills that I know will help me as a teacher. It's also really helped me to make the transition from a teenager to a responsible adult.
What are you looking forward to about life after graduation?
Having my own students and my own classroom! (And not paying tuition, of course!)
What will you miss about Augustana?
Definitely the people, but also the fact that I get to play in some really great ensembles. I think I'll also really miss how beautiful the campus is in the different seasons.
What was your favorite memory from Augie?
Getting to play in Orchestra Hall....Twice!
What advice would you give to current students?
Hmmmm......find some way to make the 4 years you have here go by less quickly! In all seriousness though, I think the best advice I have would be to not turn down opportunities. It's really easy to say "I'm tired" or "I have too much homework" or "It's been a while since I have a Saturday afternoon to just relax" and tell yourself that that opportunity will present itself again and that you'll definitely do it then. And then all of the sudden you're graduating and there are all of these things that you haven't done yet! I think the other piece of advice that I would give is to explore the Quad Cities, they're actually pretty great! Take walk or a run or a bike ride to Sylvan Island, check our Vander Veer Park in Davenport and make sure that you walk/run/bike across one of the bridges (I would recommend Arsenal Bridge because the lock and dam is really neat to see!)
