2009-2010 Season - Vikings tie for sixth at CCIW Championships
BOLINGBROOK, Ill. – A terrific round on the final day of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championships helped the Augustana men’s golf team rally from eighth place into a tie for sixth, moving in front of Elmhurst and tying North Park. The final two rounds of play were held at the Bolingbrook Golf Club in Bolingbrook, Illinois.
Jordan Henry (Erie HS, Erie, Ill.) shot an 85 in the third round and then closed with a 73 to finish in a tie for 15th place with a four round score of 318. Phil Litchfield (Benet Academy, Darien, Ill.) shot an 81 and a 71 over the weekend to complete his tournament with a score of 321, earning 20th place overall. Jeff Paustian (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) shot back-to-back rounds of 84, finishing with a score of 330 for the tournament. Jon Grchan (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) turned in a 94 in the third round, but rallied with an 82 on the final day to finish with a total of 339. Kyle Weigand (Leyden HS, Franklin Park, Ill.) competed in the final two rounds and fired a 93 and then a 74.
Illinois Wesleyan won the team competition with a four day score of 1217, outdistancing Millikin (1243) by 26 shots for the team title. Carthage placed third with a total of 1250, edging Wheaton (1253) by just three strokes. North Central came in fifth at 1275 with Augustana placing in a tie for sixth with North Park at 1292. Augustana had a team score of 300 on the final day, allowing the squad to move up in the standings. The 300 was the third lowest team score in the fourth round and also a shot better than first place Illinois Wesleyan. Elmhurst completed the field with a score of 1314.
