2009-2010 Season - Vikings finish ninth at Scot-Fire Classic
GALESBURG & MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Augustana men’s golf team competed at the Scot-Fire Classic this past weekend and finished ninth out of 19 teams. A second Viking squad also participated and earned a 15th place finish. Phil Litchfield (Benet Academy, Darien, Ill.) led the Blue & Gold with a tie for 18th in the individual standings.
Millikin won the team title with a score of 593, finishing 14 shots ahead of Monmouth (607). Central (610), Grinnell (611), Illinois Central Community College (613), North Central (615), Carl Sandburg Community College (617), and Black Hawk Community College (618) comprised the six squads that finished third through eighth and were only separated by eight strokes. Augustana was ninth with a 624, finishing ahead of Springfield Community College (630), Illinois College (633), Knox (634), Illinois Valley Community College (641), and Monmouth’s “B” squad (646). Augustana’s “B” squad scored a 651 and placed in front of Clarke (658), Judson (679), Grinnell’s “B” squad (682), and Knox’s “B” squad (708).
Litchfield shot an opening round 76 and came back with a 77 to finish with a two day score of 153. Kyle Weigand (Leyden HS, Franklin Park, Ill.) tied for 33rd with rounds of 80 and 76, finishing with a total score of 156. Jon Grchan (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) took 39th after a pair of 79’s gave him a final tally of 158. Cole Wells (Tri-Valley HS, Downs, Ill.) had an 85 in the first round, but recovered nicely with a second round 76 to finish at 161 and in a tie for 53rd place. Jordan Henry (Erie HS, Erie, Ill.) rounded out the scoring for the top squad with rounds of 81 and 83. His total of 164 gave him a tie for 67th.
Ted Keopple (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) led Augustana’s second team with rounds of 80 and 79, finishing with a 159 to tie for 40th place. Curtis Lubic (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) also turned in a solid outing, shooting rounds of 82 and 79 to place in a tie for 53rd with a 161. Greg Karesh (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) was close behind with a 163 after rounds of 79 and 84. He tied for 63rd. Tim Deets (Polo HS, Polo, Ill.) shot an 86 and an 82 to finish in a tie for 75th with a two day total of 168. Marko Loncar (Marist HS, Chicago, Ill.) shot a 93 and a 95, finishing in 94th with a 188.
Augustana will compete in the final two rounds of the CCIW Championships on April 30 and May 1.
