2009-2010 Season - Damiano and Coverick take second at Loras Open

A pair of distance runners turned in runner-up performances to highlight the Augustana women’s track & field team’s effort at the Loras Open on Saturday, April 24 in Dubuque, Iowa. This was the weekend of the Drake Relays so veteran head coach Fred Whiteside split his squad, sending some to Des Moines to compete and the rest to Dubuque.

Senior Krystal Damiano (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) has battled injury throughout her final season but Saturday she ran 41:27.42 to place second in the grueling 10,000 meter run. Just one week earlier Damiano had raced for the first time since early in the cross country season. Freshman Theresa Coverick (Stagg HS, Palos Park, Ill.) also placed second in her event, which was the 5,000. Coverick ran 19:11.56.

The two second place finishes turned in by Damiano and Coverick were the best individual places among the Augustana contingent at the meet, where no team scores were kept.

The 400 relay placed second in :54.01 and the 1600 relay took third in 4:29.23. Caitlin Quinn (Metamora HS, Metamora, Ill.) cleared 10’ 5 ¼” to take third in the pole vault.
