2009-2010 Season - 1600 Relay qualifies for finals at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa - Turning in the third fastest performance in school history, the Vikings' 1600 meter relay team has qualified for the finals at the Drake Relays. The foursome of sophomore Greg Davis (Carlinville HS, Carlinville, Ill.), freshman Greg Patton (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.), junior Matt Somers (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) and senior Nick Borchert (Ankeny HS, Ankeny, Iowa) ran 3:14.16.

That placed third in the second heat behind Oklahoma Baptist (3:12.57) and Missouri S & T (3:13.12). The Vikings will take the sixth fastest time into tomorrow's final. The 3:14.16 clocking is the third fastest in Augustana history and also qualifies the team for the NCAA Division III national meet.

It was a full day of competition for both the men's and women's team at the 101st running of the Drake Relays. The 400 relay team of Max Petersen (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.), Patton, James Wood (St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) and Alex Rindone (Marmion Academy, Geneva, Ill.) ran :42.41 and placed fourth in it's heat. The 800 relay team of Petersen, Wood, Rindone and Borchert set a new school record with a time of 1:27.72. That placed the squad fourth in the fourth heat and narrowly missed qualifying for Saturday's final.

The 3200 relay team of Steve Rogers (Crystal Lake South HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.), Sean Carmody (Winnebago HS, Rockford, Ill.), Jason Langslet (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) and Greg Weigand (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) ran 7:52.75 and placed 14th. The 4x1600 relay of Mike Tisza (Hersey HS, Prospect Heights, Ill.), Matt Bowman (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.), Brian Hart (University City HS, St. Louis, Missouri) and Brad Keating (Cary Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) placed 18th in 18:17.76.

Senior Jeff Lackaff (Downers Grove North HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) finished eighth in his flight of the javelin with a toss of 161' 1" and senior Nate Maass (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) was 10th in the same flight with a toss of 160' 1".
