Visiting the Swenson Center
If you wish to search our records yourself, you are welcome to visit the Swenson Center. Our hours are Monday through Friday 9:00-12:00 and 1:00-4:30. We are not open for researchers/visitors on Friday afternoons May 28-August 13. Please contact us by phone (309)794-7204, fax (309)794-7443, or e-mail sag@augustana.edu for an appointment before visiting us, to be sure that we have space to accommodate you on the day you wish to come, and so that we can understand what you specifically wish to find out about your ancestor. Knowing that will help us to determine which of our resources will best suit your needs and help us to prepare for your visit.
When you arrive we will ask you to read and fill out this Researcher Application. To save time, we encourage you to fill it out in advance and bring it with you.
We also ask that you organize your information onto our Research Request Form and bring it with you, being sure to fill in the "Information you are Seeking" lines. Having your information in this format will help us to make good use of your research time.
A comprehensive list of our most-used genealogical sources can be found on this page.
While doing research at the Center, we will provide the help you need by pointing you in the right direction and by helping you read the Swedish handwriting.
The Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center is a private, not-for-profit, member-supported organization dedicated to providing resources for the study of Swedish immigration to North America. For that reason, the fee for non-members conducting genealogy research at the Swenson Center is $10 per day ($5 per half day).
Please see this page for information about memberships.
