2009-2010 Season - Vikings are second in first poll

The outdoor track season is underway and the first release of the dual meet power rankings has come out. The Augustana Vikings men's track and field team is ranked second in the inaugural outdoor power ranking. The power ranking is sponsored by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) and it encompasses the top two performances by each team in every event.

The current rankings have Augustana with 192.67 points. Augustana is currently the only member of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin in the top 25. Whitworth University (195.43) holds the top spot in the rankings. The first set of ranking show a balance of power throughout the nation as the top ten includes three teams from the Midwest and South regions, and two from the West and Great Lakes regions. Washington University in Missouri (168.78) and University of Wisconsin-Platteville (154.33) are the other two teams that represent the Midwest region in the top ten ranking sixth and tenth respectively. Emory University (186.01) and Lynchburg College (170.57), both of the South region, and University of Redlands (169.04), of the West region, round out the top five.

The Vikings placed 2 nd in the Lee Calhoun Invitational on the campus of Western Illinois in Macomb on April 9 and10. The Vikings will be hosting the Meet of Champions in Rock Island on Friday April 16 and April 17.
