2009-2010 Season - Paustian finishes 16th at own invitational
Freshman Jeff Paustian (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) was the low scorer for the Vikings at the Augustana Invitational, which was held at Highland Springs Golf Course in Rock Island on April 9-10. Paustian had a two day score of 150 with balanced rounds of 74 and 76. He finished in a tie for 16th place in the individual standings.
Augustana was ninth as a team in the 14 team event. St. Ambrose #1 team picked up the first place trophy by shooting a two day total of 585 (300+285). The St. Ambrose #2 team actually had the same score but the #1 team had a better second day and was awarded first place. The St. Ambrose #2 team shot 296 and 289 for 585.
Olivet Nazarene was third at 599 (303+296) with Monmouth taking fourth at 603 (306+297) and Black Hawk getting fifth at 612 (304+308).
Brandon Kemmerling of Monmouth and Dusty Drenth of St. Ambrose tied for first individually with identical scores of 139. Drenth went 71 and 68 while Kemmerling shot 72 and 67. Kemmerling won a sudden death playoff by shooting a birdie on the first playoff hole.
Augustana's #1 team had a 626 with scores of 314 and 312 to finish ninth. The Augustana #2 team shot 629 with a 315 on the first day and a 314 on the second day.
Kyle Weigand (Leyden HS, Franklin Park, Ill.) shot 158 (79+79) while Jordan Henry (Erie HS, Erie, Ill.) also had a 158 (80+78). Phil Litchfield (Benet Academy, Darien, Ill.) had a 160 (81+79) and Greg Karesh came in with a 167 (84+83).
For the Augustana #2 team, the leader was Jonathan Grchan (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) with a 152 (75+77). Ted Keopple (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) shot 157 (77+80) and Curtis Lubin (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) had a 159 (80+79). Zach Kinscherf (Quincy Notre Dame HS, Quincy, Ill.) scored a 161 (83+78) and Marko Loncar (Marist HS, Chicago, Ill.) recorded a 181 (90-91).
