2009-2010 Season - Paustian in top 10 after first day
Following the first day of competition at the Augustana Invitational freshman Jeff Paustian (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) sits in a tie for ninth place. Paustian recorded a three over par round of 74 on Friday, April 9 under ideal weather conditions at Highlands Spring Golf Course.
Paustian is three strokes back of Dusty Drenth of St. Ambrose, who is leading the two day tournament with a score of 71. Paustian shot a 36 on the front nine and a 38 on the back nine. The Augustana "Blue" team that he is playing on is currently in ninth place with a score of 314. St. Ambrose #2 is leading the 14 team tournament with a score of 296 with the St. Ambrose #1 team in second at 300.
Playing with Paustian on the "Blue" team is junior Kyle Weigand (Leyden HS, Franklin Park, Ill.), sophomore Jordan Henry (Erie HS, Erie, Ill.), junior Phil Litchfield (Benet Academy, Darien, Ill.) and sophomore Greg Karesh (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.). Weigand shot a 79 while Henry checked in at 80 and Litchfield had an 81. Karesh shot an 84.
The Augustana "Gold" team used a tremendous showing by freshman Jonathan Grchan (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) to shoot 315 and end the first day in 10th place. Grchan recorded a 75, with nines of 38 and 37, and is in 14th place. Junior Ted Keopple (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) had a 77. Freshman Curtis Lubic (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) shot 80 with senior Zach Kinscherf (Quincy Notre Dame HS, Quincy, Ill.) recording 83. Sophomore Marko Loncar (Marist HS, Chicago, Ill.) had a 90.
Day two of the tournament will resume on Saturday, April 10 at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
