2009-2010 Season - Paustian leads Vikings at IWU Invite

NORMAL, Ill. – Jeff Paustian (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) shot the lone round in the 70’s for the Augustana men’s golf team, firing a round of 79 on the second day of the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational to finish in a tie for 33rd in the 124 player field.  He had a two round total of 159 (80 + 79).  The two day event was held at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Illinois.  Augustana finished 14th at the 23 team tournament.

The Vikings shot a collective 330 on the first day and improved to a 326 on the second day, finishing with a total of 656.  Illinois Wesleyan won the team title with a score of 612, followed by Rhodes (616), and Nebraska Wesleyan (618). 

Millikin was fourth at 628 and the next seven teams were all within three shots of each other.  Carroll took fifth with a score of 635 and Parkland CC placed sixth at 636.  Central, Monmouth, Elmhurst, and Carthage all tied for seventh place with a total of 637.  Aurora finished in 11th at 638.  Edgewood (643) and Knox (654) also placed ahead of Augustana. 

The Vikings finished in front of Taylor (659), Dubuque (659), Robert Morris (661), Benedictine (661), Webster (666), North Central (671), Milwaukee School of Engineering (680), Fontbonne (687), and Eureka (781).

Kyle Weigand (Leyden HS, Franklin Park, Ill.) came in just one shot behind Paustian, shooting a pair of 80’s and finishing in a tie for 41st with 160.  Phil Litchfield (Benet Academy, Darien, Ill.) tallied an 83 on both days, placing in a tie for 62nd with an overall score of 166.  Cole Wells (Tri-Valley HS, Downs, Ill.) was fourth for the Blue & Gold, finishing with a 171 (87 + 84) to tie for 90th.  Jordan Henry (Erie HS, Erie, Ill.) finished in a tie for 103rd after rounds of 90 and 85 gave him a 175 for the tournament.

Shay Womack of Rhodes won medalist honors with a two day total of 147 (72 + 75).
