2010 Season - Baseball ranked 15th in nation
After suffering a pair of defeats last week, the Augustana Vikings dropped four spots in this week’s NCAA Division III national ranking. Veteran head coach Greg Wallace’s team is now 15 th in the nation according to D3baseball.com. The Vikings are 12-2 overall heading into today’s College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin opening doubleheader at Wheaton.
Augustana won its first 12 games of the season to move all the way to 11 th in the poll after being unranked at the beginning of the season. However, the Vikings fell to Aurora on Thursday, March 25 by a score of 6-2 and then lost 8-5 to Buena Vista on Saturday, March 27. Under the direction of veteran head coach Greg Wallace, Augustana has victories this year over a participant in the 2009 College World Series (Farmingdale State) and four other 2009 NCAA tournament teams (Beloit, Rose-Hulman, St. Norbert and Fontbonne).
The Vikings were not ranked in the pre-season and moved to 24 th after the first poll and then jumped to 18 th two weeks ago and 11 th last week before falling to 15 th this week. St. Thomas, the defending NCAA Division III national champion, is currently holding down the top spot with a 9-1 record and 625 points. The Tommies have garnered all 25 first place votes. Augustana has 253 points in the 15 th spot.
