2009-2010 Season - Augustana second at Viking Olympics

ROCK ISLAND, Ill.—Wins by Amy Walsh (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) in the 400 hurdles and Hannah Hottle (Monmouth-Roseville HS, Monmouth, Ill.) in the 800 highlighted a second place finish for Augustana at the Viking Olympics Saturday. The hosts finished with 154 points, trailing Winona State’s 294 and ahead of third-place St. Ambrose’s 152.

Brittney Bennett (Annawan HS, Annawan, Ill.) ran a 1:10.29 to finish second behind Walsh’s winning 1:08.02 in the 400 hurdles. Emil Margosian (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) was seventh with a time of 1:13.17. Walsh also finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles, running a :16.42.

Hottle ran a 2:20.63 to win the 800 with Sarahbeth Jones (Warren HS, Wadsworth, Ill.) finishing third in 2:25.00.

In the 100, Ainsley Fedler (Burlington HS, Burlington, Iowa) took third place with a time of :12.76 and Annie Heifner (Oregon HS, Oregon, Wis.) also captured a third place finish, running a 4:59.30 in the 1500.

Ella Mathieson (Lyons HS, LaGrange, Ill.) and Jennifer Prazak (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.) each earned fourth-place finishes. Mathieson went 33’ 11¼” in the triple jump while Prazak scored 2,684 points in the heptathlon. Theresa Coverick (Stagg HS, Palos Park, Ill.) took fifth in the 5000 with a time of 18:45.72 and Megan Timmerman (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) was sixth in the high jump, clearing 4’ 9¾”.

In relay events, Walsh, Bennett, Jones and Hottle finished second in the 4x400 (4:06.84); Bennett, Katie Bedene (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.), Valerie Bach (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) and Fedler were fourth in the 4x100 (:51.31); and Fedler, Bach, Mathieson and Catherine Foreman (St. Joseph-Ogden HS, St. Joseph, Ill.) finished fourth in the 4x200 (1:50.22).
